Speed, Packaging, and Temperature

According to a recent research report from NPD Group, 52% of customers said they would not use a food delivery service again if their food arrived at the wrong temperature.


Among the other key findings:

  • Digital ordering grew at an annual rate of 23% from 2013-2017 and is forecast to continue to be a driving factor in increased sales.

  • Among the larger quick service chains, almost 70% of digital orders came through the restaurant branded digital app rather than a third-party delivery app. However, smaller restaurants tended to rely more on third-party branded apps since they often did not have the resources to build out a digital platform.

  • Loyalty programs were effective in driving repeat customer usage.

  • The demand for better packaging, faster delivery and better presentation of the food on arrival, continues to be a major factor moving forward.
