What Is The Most Popular Food In America?

Have you ever wondered what food Americans love most? Well it depends who you ask.

What Is The Most Popular Food In America?

What is America's most popular food? It's a reasonable question, and in this age of big data you might expect a simple answer. Well not so fast. The problem is there is no single source or reliable measure. So we decided to look at several studies to see if we can answer the question.

A great starting point is the food delivery giant Grubhub. Every year they produce a annual Year in Food Report which includes a list of the most popular items ordered on their platform. The top ten items are shown here with the percentages in brackets showing the increase in popularity from the previous year.

  1. bean burrito (276% more popular)

  2. poke (205% more popular)

  3. chicken slider (189% more popular)

  4. baby back pork rib (165% more popular)

  5. chicken burrito (164% more popular)

  6. chicken sandwich (160% more popular)

  7. cauliflower rice bowl (155% more popular)

  8. chicken and waffle slider (145% more popular)

  9. parmesan chicken (139% more popular)

  10. buffalo cauliflower (124% more popular)

For those of you surprised by the absence of pizza and burgers, remember this list is for delivery from the Grubhub platform. It ignores the many pizza companies that have their own delivery services, and the millions of us using drive-thru lanes. It also ignores people dining in restaurants.
